Established in 1978, the UMUC Arts Program is dedicated to collecting and exhibiting artwork by Maryland artists. The Maryland Artists Collection, a growing, permanent collection, consists of more than 300 works by Maryland painters, printmakers, photographers, and sculptors. Artists represented in the collection include Gladys Goldstein, Herman Maril, Selma Oppenheimer, Karl Metzler, Joseph Sheppard, Philip Koch, Barbara Cooper Hansen, and Aaron Sopher. The Arts Council supports outstanding expression including performance, media, literary and visual arts. Hocevar Building, was created in 1997 and features local professional level artist. Each month the gallery features a different set of works from a local artist or art group.
